Kingston Crows Cricket Club

As mentioned at the annual dinner, we’re thrilled to announce and congratulate two of our most promising young cricketers, Jacob Downie, and Aidan Donovan, on their appointment as the new head coaches of the Kingston Crows Cricket Club! Their energy, insight, and deep understanding of the game make them ideal leaders to guide our teams into an exciting new era. We’re confident their fresh approach will inspire players across all levels and continue to build on the strong foundation of our club’s proud history.

At the same time, we thank our outgoing head coach, Jamie Knott, whose dedication, leadership, and countless hours of service have shaped the club into what it is today. While Jamie is stepping back from head coach, he will remain actively involved in the club’s activities and continue to be a valued part of our cricketing family.

As we look ahead, we’re also on the lookout for passionate individuals to join our coaching team. If you’re interested in contributing to the development of our players and being part of this exciting chapter, please reach out to Jay.

A grades season came to an unfortunate end with a loss to Margate at Margate. Nonetheless, Jacob Downie finished off his extraordinary season with an unbeaten 118 and 3fa. Cooke and knotty were good in support with 46* and 37.

B grade held on in a tight one to beat Margate by 2 wickets and jump 2nd on the ladder and host the semi final against longley this weekend. Anish was fantastic with the ball yet again, and Mal Scriber saw the boys home with 15*

C grade was full of fireworks! After getting rolled for 120, Gator Boy entered with the new pellet and made light work of the summerlease batsman taking a jaw dropping 7/16!

See you this weekend at the nest on Saturday for the B grade semi final and at Sandfly oval for the C grade Semi!!

Weekend results 🏏

A grade locked horns with Blackmans Bay at the Nest in what played out as a classic. The Bay elected to bat first, posting a score of 269, Ollie Smith and Sam Rose were the pick of the bowlers, with 2/38 and 2/43 respectively.

The crows lost a couple early ones in pursuit, but a magnificent 112 run stand by Donovan and Downie put them back on track. With some quick runs needed, Cooke and Harris put some on the board, before Cooke departed trying to hit one to Margate.
Down to the final ball of the innings, 2 runs to win, 1 to draw, Anish hit one to cover, and after 600 balls across the day, the match ended in a draw!

B grade travelled up the road to take on blackmans bay, electing to bat first the crows struggled early, falling to 4-15, with regular wickets proving an issue, posted a score of 112.

Blackmans bay chased down the runs 3 down, with the crowies going down by 7 wickets.

Spence with 22 runs and big Jim Kean 1/7.

C grade travelled down to Woodbridge with Townsend squared! The much anticipated debut of Alicia Townsend, alongside brother Nick, had crowies old and new buzzing with excitement.
The crowies batted first, with a magnificent 95 to Timmy Eyles posting a very healthy 5/219 off the 40 overs.

In reply, Woodbridge chased down the runs 8 down, after some powerful hitting. Tadpole was outstanding with the ball, taking 5/38.

Big finish to the year coming up, with the crowies in the hunt in all 3 grades. Get along as support over the next few weeks, including this Thursday at Nest for Div 1 T20!

A great start to 2025 for the crows with A grade getting over the line in a nail biter and B grade getting the job done comfortably. Down at Woodbridge, the crows had a bowl first and had their backs against the ball with the Wombats at 3/150 before a Jacob Downie hattrick with the last 3 balls of his spell triggering a 7/19 collapse. The crows made life hard for themselves losing regular wickets until a Hayers (49) and Bomford (28*) partnership got the crows within touching distance of a win before Bomford and Smith got the crows over the line.
Jack Spencer led with both bat and ball in B grade taking 4fa and top scoring with 24 in their chase of 100. Young Lewis Daly spun his way to 3 wickets and skipper Bowden got the chase done with his 21*
C grade made a promising start at Lightwood being 2/94 before the rain set in and washed out the game.

Another Crow milestone!
A few weekends ago saw another beloved crow bring up 100 club games. Jono “Gator” Eyles has been a valued and popular member of the club since joining. Known for his unorthodox catching technique and love for solo cans, Gator has come leaps and bounds in his cricketing over the years but one thing that has remained constant is his love and dedication for the crows. Gator is a premiership player for the club as well as a best and fairest winner. Well done on the milestone gator and thank you for everything you do for our club.

His off field antics matching his on field achievements, he saved his best form for both on and off field for grand final days winning multiple flags and best on ground medals.
Congrats Cooka, look forward to the next 100.

Dane Swanny Ayliffe brings up Ton!

Fiercely admired by his opponents (at least through the first four games of 2024) Swanny is the heart and soul of the crom culture, embodying what it means to be a true crowie. In a throwback to the swanny of old, he brought up game 100 on the weekend with a classy 🦆.

Hes improved tremendously over his time with the crows, turning into a great opening batsman and starting to come into his own.

His stats over his 100 games:
1093 runs
79 wickets
Countless self proclamations of ‘hands of the Huon’

Here’s to the next 200 swanny, and hopefully learning a few variations with the bowl!

CROWS RETAIN PETER UNSWORTH SHIELD!
Another weekend of mixed results for the crows with A and C recording important and B grade going down in a tight contest.
Down at Longley our A grade boys had a bowl first with Jay Bowden making early in roads with the new ball before the spinners, Downie (3/26) and Ayliffe (2/28) helped slow the Bunyips in the middle overs. Downie and Harris, 35 and 32* were the main contributors with the bat with Rose and Donovan offering some support to help get the boys across the line.

At the nest, Dan Woodhead lead the attack taking 4/45 off his 10 overs and captain Jamie Knott pitching in with 2/29 from his 10 overs. Woodhead was also the foundation of the batting innings adding 29 runs to the total.

On Sunday our C grade boys put in another strong performance chasing down Margate’s 153 whilst only losing 3 wickets. In the bowling innings Tim Eyles took 3/21 off 8 overs and Brendon Fazackerly only needed 4 deliveries to get his 2 wickets. Tim Eyles dug deep in the run chase putting up 49* and was well supported by Kelvin Allwood (38) and Fazackerly (33*).

Team selections for Round 4 🏏
This week sees our A grade side travel down to Sandfly to take on Longley for the Unsworth Shield. In recent years this has been a fiercely fought battle between the two sides and this game has even more meaning.
B grade are in the second week of their home double header as they host Longley at the nest in what will be a good game of cricket.
C grade travel to Margate and are hoping to keep up their winning ways and make it back to back wins.

Another week and another stand out performance for the Crows. Jacob Downie scored a magnificent and chanceless 119 against Kettering in Round 3, his second in a row at Kettering Oval. Jacob continues to go from strength to strength and we hope to see him continue his form throughout the season.

Last weekend saw Shane Hall play his 150th game for the Crows! Shane is a much appreciated and valued member of the club. Reaching 150 games is a massive achievement and highlights Shane’s dedication and loyalty to the Crows.

An eventful weekend for the crows with A and B grade both going down to Kettering in tight games and C grade bouncing back against Longley to get their season going.
Jacob Downie continued his hot form against Kettering making another impressive 100. In B grade both Knott’s put in solid performances with Jamie raising the bat and Ryan following his 5 wicket game last week with 4 more against Kettering. On Sunday, Anish and Faz battled hard in the middle giving C grade a solid total to defend before the Eyles boys both chipped in with 3 wickets each to guide the boys to the win.

Congratulations to Ryan Knott who led B grade to a commanding win against Southern Tigers on Saturday. Ryan finished the day with 5/24 off 6.5 overs in what was a great start to his season!

Dan “Snappa” Woodhead’s 250th Game!
Yesterday marked an incredible milestone of 250 games with our club for Snappa. Joining us in the 2007/08 season Snap has won 4 premierships and played among all three grades. To top it off the B grade boys were able to get a win, with Snap finishing the game not out and being out there for the winning runs. Congrats Snap, hopefully many more games to come!!

Congratulations to Sam ‘SOS” Rose who played his 100th club match on Saturday👏👏.
Sam played some junior cricket at The Crows before heading to the Kingborough Knights returning back to The Nest at the start of the 2017/18 season, primarily as an opening batsmen who bowled a little.
Sam played his 1st Crows game (C grade) at Castle Forbes Bay against the Southern Tigers. As he was an unknown quantity, Captain of the day, Jason ‘Jonah’ Jones asked if he’d like to open the bowling. Sam returned the figures of 6 wickets for 25 runs off his 10 overs (5 bowled, 1 LBW). During that game Sam asked Jonah for more slips, Jonah said he’d add one every time Sam took a wicket. At the end of Sams spell he had a keeper, 6 slips and a gully.
At the end of his first season Sam was awarded the “Colin Smith’ Medal 🥇 as best 3rd grade player, he also won the C grade bowling aggregate with a total of 24 wickets at 12.46.
During the 2018/19 season Sam made his ‘A’ Grade debut. He was a member of the ‘A’ Grade team that played in the statewide T20 semi-final against Launceston C.C at the NTCA and at the end of the season won the ‘A’ Grade fielding award.
In 2020/21 Sam was a member of the victorious ‘A’ grade premiership team 🏆, although going wicketless for the GF he partnered Mick Conway in a much needed 9th wicket partnership of 44. Sam was also selected in the ‘HCCA Team of the Year’.
Sam enjoyed premiership success again in 2022/23 when our A’s defeated Summerleas 🏆.
Sam has taken 133 wickets and scored 794 runs.
Off field Sam has umpired for the HCCA, has coached several Crows junior teams, is often found behind the wheel of the drinks cart at our annual Golf Day, and this season joined the Crows committee.
Perhaps Sam greatest achievement with the Crows was during the 2020/21 season when he was a member of the victorious Trivia Night team 🍾.
Sam is a much respected member of The Crows and throughout the HCCA, he is an accurate quick bowler who is also proving to be a very handy top order batsmen, he does alright in the field as well.
At just 22 years of age we have high expectations for Sam as he continues his cricketing journey with The Crows ⭐️.

A grade travelled down to ranelagh and got the 4 points behind a gritty Aidan Donovan 72 and some special work in the field from Jacob Downie!
B Grade defended 188 nicely as Jacob ‘Scutt’ Doole had some elusive power hitting towards the back end of the innings and some tidy figures from Chris ‘Dizzy’ Tomlin to sink the Warriors hopes.
C Grade finished the weekend in style, with Jake Hayers the standout with a powerful 67!
We look to do it all again this weekend with the last game before the Christmas break!

What a great weekend down at The Nest. In addition to a great game of cricket three members of The Crows family were elevated to ‘Red’ & ‘Black’ Crows status.
Life Member Jack Dare was elevated to ‘Red’ Crow. The ‘Red’ Crow status is awarded in recognition of ‘off field’ service to the club for a period of 8 or more years.
Jonathan Cashion & Lindsay Moody were awarded the highest club honour, namely ‘Black Crow’. The “Black Crow’ recognises Life Members who have been involved with the club for 25+ years and have provided at least 10 years of continuous ‘off field’ service to the club. (there will be individual tributes through the week).
Huge congratulations to Jack, Linds & ‘The Chief’ 👏👏👏.
